It is much easier to guess why the bulls put a ring in their nose, rather than understand why some citizens voluntarily do this with their own noses.
In the case of the bulls, this, at first glance, cruelty is in fact a necessity, due to concern for the people caring for the bulls, and for the animals themselves.
Read more about this procedure - read on.
Why does a bull have a nose ring
Male cattle - a powerful animal, wayward and poorly amenable to persuasion. Meanwhile, in the process of leaving it is necessary to somehow influence the cattle. For example, when you just need to drive it into a stall. In such a situation, a person has long had the idea to somehow influence the painful points of a bull and thus bring a huge and capricious animal to humility.
Important! It is categorically impossible to shout at a bull and beat him, it only embitters the animal and often infuriates him.
There are three similar points on his body:
- ears;
- eyes;
- nose.
The nose was the most convenient painful point for restraining an animal in the process of caring for it. It is into this that they insert a ring, which is called a septum, which in Latin means “partition”.
It is in the central septum between the two nostrils of the nose and make a puncture, which is now better known as piercing. A ring is inserted into the puncture, which at the slightest tension from the side gives the bull such discomfort that it is forced to obey any requirements of the breeder.

As a result, thanks to the piercer it becomes much easier:
- care for animals;
- carry out any veterinary activities with the breeding cattle;
- observe safety precautions and prevent accidents involving injuries to people and livestock.
How to insert a ring in the nose
Usually yearling gobies are exposed to piercing. During this operation, the veterinarian reliably fixes the head of the animal, using a trocar makes a hole in the nasal septum, inserts a ring into it, clamps a special rivet using forceps and completes the operation by closing the lock on the ring.
Then the wound is disinfected and does not worry for ten days, after which it heals. After that, the cattle can already be led by the ring. So that it does not interfere with the bull during, for example, feeding, the ring is lifted and in such a position tied up with a belt or a rope to the horns.
Did you know? Bulls and cows strictly adhere to the eight-hour "work" schedule on pasture. After this time, they strictly stop pinching grass and begin to relax, chewing on their gum.
Who else is inserted a ring
In addition to bulls, sometimes pigs are also subjected to a cattle-breeding piercing, so that they don’t plow up everything around with their coppers. Sometimes a kind of bovine piercing in the nose and make very young calves.

Some of them suck the maternal udder for too long, although it’s time to switch to another feed, so the breeders resort to such tricks:
- Calves are inserted into the nose, without piercing the septum, a ring-shaped clip.
- The clip is supplied on the outer surface with small spikes.
- The calf reaches for the udder of the cow and gives it the pain of these thorns.
- The cow resents and drives the calf away.
- The calf willy-nilly has to switch to another feed.
It seems to be a cruel way of treating animals in the form of piercing in fact turns out to be a blessing not only for people, but also for the cattle themselves.
