What are dahlias: classification with examples of popular varieties

Today, there are more than 15 thousand varieties of dahlias - a flower that is loved by many gardeners.

Among such quantity and variety it is difficult to sort out and choose a particular plant for planting on your own plot, so the botanists decided to classify the flower according to the unifying characteristics into groups.

Ordinary

Ordinary, or simple dahlias are not extraordinary: they have an open-looking center, usually yellow, one or two rows of petals. The inflorescences are small, up to 10 cm in diameter, the height of the stem does not exceed 60 cm. This is the usual type of flowers, a frequent guest in gardens and flower gardens.

Plants harmoniously look in group plantings, as living borders, in containers. Propagated by seed and rassadnym way.

Today's popular varieties:

  • "Happy Kiss" - a hybrid of the Dutch selection, orange with a pink tint of petals are located in a dense ring around the dark, almost brown center with golden stains of stamens;
  • "Happy guys" - unpretentious variety, calmly refers to the drought and wintering in the ground. Flowers have different shades: white, yellow, pink and others. The plant multiplies seeds, blooms lushly.

  • "Night Butterfly" - the outer row is white with pink stripes, the inner one is dark burgundy;
  • "Pooh" - outer petals are large, round, carmine in color with white tips, the inner ones are milky white;
  • "Jocondo" - outer petals are pink or red, internal - yellowish-white.

Anemone like

These are tall to 70 cm dahlia with semi-double heads up to 10 cm in diameter.

Common varieties in floriculture:

  • "Boogie Woogie" - up to a meter in height, two-tone, pink-yellow. It is resistant to low temperatures, it blooms from July to October, it stands for a long time in a bouquet.
  • "Lambada". This dahlia does not tolerate winter in the soil, the tubers are dug and stored in peat. During the flowering period from June to October has time to bloom several times. Large, up to 15 cm in diameter, the buds are painted in the middle with a creamy, pink tinged at the edges.
  • "El Nino" - does not overwinter in the ground, blooms magnificently and for a long time: from the beginning of summer to autumn. Buds are small, from 5 cm, but their color is truly royal - purple-maroon.

  • "Boom Boom Purple" - pleases with lush buds from July to September, rich in violet colors. Effect as a border, in single plantings, does not overwinter on the site.
  • "Marble Ball" - with a creamy shade of buds, tinted with blueberry stripes. Used in bouquets of mixed type, in single plantings.

Important! Dahlias are sunny flowers, they are planted in areas lighted and closed from drafts, it is advisable to mulch the soil with peat.

Pompon

Pompon Dahlia have the most diverse colors, flowers are terry with twisted inside or growing one above the other petals.
