Russia is unlikely to be able to repeat the record grain harvest in 2017

The President of the Russian Grain Union, Arkady Zlochevsky, said that the grain harvest in 2017 in Russia will be high, but will not reach the record level of the previous year. Its premise is that the state of winter crops at the end of winter is the determining factor and in 2015-2016 almost 100% of them survived, while traditionally farmers lose 10-15%, so that one can hardly count on the same results this year. Ideal weather conditions are unlikely to be repeated this year.

The crops were in very good condition in winter and, despite some recent reservations about Krasnodar, right now they are all largely under a reliable insulating layer of snow. If we assume that nothing will happen by the end of winter (although there is still a lot of time), then there should be a good foundation for winter grain crops at the beginning of the season. Nevertheless, one glance at the graphs of precipitation shows how unusual the circumstances were in the past year, so you should not expect the same success.
