Ukraine will increase imports of fresh strawberries

Ukraine is likely to increase imports of fresh strawberries, the Info-Shuvar specialists concluded, taking into account the data on the purchase of imported berries in March.

In March, about 60-65 tons of fresh garden strawberries arrived in Ukraine, which accounts for 40% of the total volume of its imports in 2018. In previous years, March accounted for no more than 25% of the total annual volume of purchases of imported strawberries. According to Ukrainian traders, the whole berry in March of this year came from the EU countries. Spain turned out to be the main strawberry exporter, among other major suppliers Albania and Greece were noted.

As previously reported, Ukrainians are increasingly consuming fresh berries out of season. In the "pre-crisis" time, Ukraine imported even more strawberries than it does now. So, in 2013, the country purchased 1.6 thousand tons of berries abroad, and 50% of the total volume was imported in April. In 2014, imports of strawberries decreased to 450 tons, and in 2015, Ukraine acquired a little more than 100 tons of strawberries from other countries.

Specialists "Info-Shuvar" revealed an increase in the supply of imported strawberries in the markets of Ukraine in March. A large number of berry offers led to a drop in prices for it. According to Info-Shuvar on the largest wholesale market in Western Ukraine, the ORSP Shuvar in Lviv from mid-March to mid-April, foreign strawberries became 1.6 times cheaper. The current prices at the level of 80-100 UAH / kg are lower than the prices of imported products on the same date last year.
