A resident of Murovanokurilovets district of Vinnitsa region, ex-serviceman Mikhail Gvyazdovsky gladly recalls his former officer life. However, his hobby is helping him to brighten up the present weekdays - growing stunning varieties of nutmeg, sweet melon and fragrant pears.
“Growing pumpkins is still a novelty for me,” Mikhail admits. “I’ve been doing them recently, and started with Italian and French elite table varieties.”
The harvest this year turned out to be generous, and Gvyazdovsky decided to sell his beauties at a price of 5 UAH per kilogram. However, such prices are not exactly liked the buyer. And wholesale buyers ask for a discount in as much as 4 hryvnia.
The hard-working farmer is not in a hurry to give away his pumpkins for almost nothing, because he spent about $ 500 just to buy seeds.
“Add to this the cost of fuel that is needed to take the crop from the field to the market. But the efforts that we made to grow together with my wife!” - says Michael. He also emphasizes that his pumpkins are completely environmentally friendly, because when growing the farmer did not use any additional feedings or means for processing plants. To grow a generous harvest he was helped by the land itself, on which nothing grew for about 10 years.
One of the most impressive pumpkins of the current harvest of Gvyazdovsky pulls on 28 kilograms. It belongs to the Lunga Piena di Napoli variety: green-skinned, and inside it is orange and aromatic pulp.
