Do broilers carry eggs at home?

Broilers are grown to produce meat, so they are usually not considered from the stand of egg production. But at the same time, these birds are still able to lay eggs. How to achieve this at home, we will tell.

Does the broiler give eggs

Broilers are among the most popular meat breeds due to the fact that these birds quickly gain weight, and their meat has excellent taste. They appeared as a result of the crossing of several meat breeds of chickens (the so-called "crosses" - the result of carefully planned interbreeding). Hybrid birds gain a weight of 2-3 kg by the 40-45 day of life. In connection with such a rapid growth rate, these chickens most often simply do not live to the point of puberty and, accordingly, egg production, which comes at them rather late - at 6-7 months. That is, such laying hens can also bring eggs, but a much smaller amount than the quotas intended for this.

Important! Leaves are left for egg-laying in cases where the birds did not gain the desired mass upon reaching a certain age, there are no crosses for this purpose.

Good egg production among broilers is observed in the following breeds:

  • "ROSS-308" - laying hens give 185 eggs a year;
  • "ROSS-708" - an average of 140 eggs per year, while the meat retains its taste;
  • "Broiler-M" - on 160-165;
  • "Broiler-61" - 150 each;
  • "Gibro-6" - 140 each.

How to get eggs from broilers

To hybrid chickens raced, you should carefully approach their diet. The fact is that such laying hens are prone to obesity, and, as is well known, it can adversely affect egg production. In the menu of birds, there should be a lot of greenery and shell rock. It is very important in eating for the balance of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, and the rations should be much less than for broilers for meat. It is recommended to feed them 2-3 times a day. It is also necessary to provide them with access to clean water, since excessive drinking promotes egg laying. Another feature of crosses is that they are very susceptible to various diseases.

Important! The broiler meat loses its taste, it becomes hard and fibrous. This is directly related to the age of the bird, because in order to get a delicate and tasty product, chickens are sent for slaughter at a maximum of 3 months of age.
Due to weak immunity and a tendency to obesity, it is rather difficult to maintain them after the birds are 3 months old. The poultry breeder should constantly monitor the behavior and health of the bird. If you miss the moment and the chicks get sick, you can lose both eggs and meat overnight.

Content of egg broilers

Broilers are very capricious in the content - this also applies to layers. They definitely need to ensure cleanliness, warmth and lack of moisture, since even the slightest violation of conditions of detention may entail negative consequences. Keep hens on litter of sawdust or in long cages; free range can be dangerous for them, so it’s better not to organize it.

Prerequisite is the presence of lighting in the house. Broiler layers show a regular abdominal massage - this is necessary in order to facilitate the laying process.

Did you know? There are about 700 different breeds of chickens in the world, but 32 are considered extinct, and another 300 are on the verge of extinction.

Broiler eggs for food

Eggs in broiler chickens are large, their weight reaches 65 g. Often, 2 yolks are formed inside. Due to the large size of the eggs may not pass through the oviduct, which often leads to the death of the club. According to the taste and nutritional characteristics of the product from the hybrid layer is no different from the usual.

Broiler Eggs for Incubator

Hybrid layers are devoid of maternal instinct, and perhaps not without reason. The fact is that even in the conditions of an incubator, healthy chicks can be obtained only with special knowledge and good breeding material. It is almost impossible to achieve good results at home - the chicks will either not hatch at all, or be born sick.

Experienced poultry farmers know about this feature of broilers and try to buy already hatched chickens from the same vendors. In any case - do not think that the chicken that was born from the broiler egg itself will be a broiler and will inherit the quality of parents. This is not feasible in principle, since any broiler is the result of hybridization, crossing of various breeds. For their cultivation you will need to buy chickens from those who are professionally engaged in their breeding.

Did you know? In the ongoing discussions about what came first, the chicken or the egg, there are plenty of theories and arguments. One of the latest versions is that the first one was an egg, but some other creature had blown it; at the same time there was a genetic failure and a new species was formed - the chicken.
Broilers can carry just like other chickens. This can be achieved through proper nutrition, compliance with the conditions of detention and care. But this process greatly complicates the work of the poultry farmer. Therefore, if you want to get both meat and eggs, give preference to meat and egg breeds. And it is also possible to contain broilers and layers of the egg direction at the same time, which is also a good option.
